How TAMKO® Uses Recycled Materials to Help the Community

TAMKO® Building Products has used over one billion pounds of recycled paper, cardboard, sawdust, plastic and other materials for its products since 2013.

In this post, your local residential roofing company, CQ Construction, discusses what this initiative means to homeowners and the environment.

Sustainable Practices

“We are proud to use recycled materials and incorporate sustainable practices that benefit our business, customers, employees and communities,” TAMKO President and CEO, David Humphreys said. “We care about the health and safety of our communities because our people live and work here too.”

More than 89 million pounds of recycled cardboard was used for its products in 2018 at TAMKO’s Knoxville facility alone. It means around 244,000 pounds of recycled materials are used each day. Moreover, 549 million pounds of materials that couldn’t be repurposed were sent to other recyclers instead of landfills.

At CQ Construction, we offer TAMKO products for new roof construction to give you more sustainable and environmentally friendly roofing options.

Reduced Consumption of Natural Resources

Potential air emissions are reduced by 70 percent at TAMKO’s Phillipsburg, Kansas facility. At the company’s Frederick, Maryland facility, a rainwater capture and recycling system reduces water consumption by around 100,000 gallons per year. Its High Street facility in Joplin, Missouri saves as much as 74 percent in water use by recycling water.

“We strive to protect the environment and the health and safety of the public, our customers and employees through the goal of 100 percent compliance, 100 percent of the time by 100 percent of the people,” Humphreys stated.

TAMKO is continuously looking for methods to reduce its consumption of natural resources. It focuses on promoting healthy environments for its employees and surrounding communities.
